How to Determine Tire Pressure Using a Tire Pressure Gauge

To determine if your tire pressure is normal using a tire pressure gauge, follow these steps:

 

First, unscrew the tire valve cap. Then, press the tire pressure gauge firmly onto the valve and observe the reading.

Next, locate the standard tire pressure values. These can usually be found in the owner's manual, inside the door, in the vehicle's owner's manual, on a label next to the driver's side door, in the glove compartment next to the driver's seat, or on the fuel filler door. Generally, the half-load tire pressure is sufficient.

 

Compare the measured value with the standard tire pressure. If the tire pressure is too high, you can press the bleed valve button on the tire pressure gauge to release air; if the tire pressure is too low, it needs to be inflated.

 

If you don't have a tire pressure gauge, you can also determine the tire pressure by observing the tire wear. When the tire pressure is low, the wear on the sides will be more pronounced; when the tire pressure is high, the wear in the center will be more noticeable.

 

Additionally, some vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, where you can directly view the tire pressure value on the display screen. Generally, tire pressure between 2.3 and 2.5 bar is considered normal.

 

You can also visually check the tire pressure. At normal tire pressure, the tire tread should make contact with the ground at approximately 6 marks, or 2.2 to 2.5 atmospheres of pressure. If the number of marks is greater than 6, the tire pressure is less than 2 atmospheres; if the number is less than 6, the tire pressure is higher than normal.

 

To ensure accurate measurements, it is recommended to measure tire pressure at room temperature. The tire pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer refers to the cold tire pressure, i.e., after parking for at least three hours or after driving less than 2 kilometers. If you can only measure when the tires are hot, you need to subtract approximately 0.3 bar from the measured tire pressure to obtain the inflation pressure when the tires are cold.
